CARES Act and Your HSA
These are challenging times, and we know many Americans are looking for ways to save money. That’s why we want you to be aware of the recent passing of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) and what it means for you. With the CARES Act, you no longer need a prescription to purchase over-the-counter medicine, and you can buy feminine hygiene products (among other items) with your health savings account (HSA) funds. More information is available here. These changes are permanent.
This means you can now use the funds in your HSA to purchase items, such as:
Tampons, pads, and liners
Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications
Cold, cough, flu, allergy and sinus medicine
Baby electrolytes, rash ointments, and creams
And so much more. See Our Full List.
Effective January 1, 2020
These changes apply to purchases dating back to January 1, 2020. That means if you have purchased any of these items since the beginning of the year, you can file for reimbursement from your HSA.
